The UCONN Women’s basketball team lost to Stanford 71-59 last night, stopping their winning streak at 90 games:
The WPS (Women’s Professional Soccer) is alive and kickin’, pun intended. In the first few weeks of the season, the Women have received some great support1 from local fans. David Mosse stated in a recent article “a major factor in this success undoubtedly is an intelligent business model, but the trump card has been the play on the field. Women’s soccer has come a long way since the WUSA folded back in 2003, and unlike Major League Soccer, the WPS features the best in the world.2”
It will be interesting to see over the course of the season, how the attendance will fair. These are, unfortunately, tough economic times and they may have an impact on a league that is starting up and does not have the following quite yet.
I personally think the league is a great idea and would like to see it flourish and grow much like the WNBA has in recent years.
