Ozzie, Ozzie, Oy, Oy

The Chicago White Sox have released Manager Ozzie Guillen from his current contract with the team. The White Sox made the move after a request for an extension was denied by Kenny Williams. It is no secret that Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen did not have the best relationship and would ultimately lead to this decision:

Liriano-no

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Fransisco Liriano threw the 7th no hitter in Twins franchise history last night. It was not the prettiest of performances with 6 walks, but he was able to silence the White Sox’s bats:

Yankees Honor Steinbrenner

  • The New York Yankees unveiled a huge monument to honor their late boss, George Steinbrenner1. New York would go onto defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-6 and give themselves a bit more cushion atop the A.L. East.
  • The Minnesota Twins are getting closer to clinching the A.L. Central as their number shrunk to 2 games2 after winning 9-3 over the Indians and Oakland defeating the White Sox 3-0.
  • The Tigers defeated the Royals 7-5 thanks to Will Rhymes first Major League career home run3 and some spectacular defensive plays.

Giants Move Into First

Here’s The Rundown:

  • This may happen more times down the stretch but the Giants moved back into first place1 in the N.L West with a 10-2 victory over the Dodgers. The win was backed by a great offensive night and a 12 strikeout performance by Jonathan Sanchez.
  • The Twins got themselves a little closer to clinching2 the A.L Central as they swept the White Sox with an 8-5 win last night.
  • The Astros pushed the Reds victory party back a few days as they won 3-1 thanks to the pitching of Rodrigo Lopez3 (7 IP, 1 Run).

Jiminez Notches Victory No. 18

  • Ubaldo Jimenez, of the Rockies, may not have been his usual dazzling self, but it sure was enough for his 18th victory1 of the season.
  • The Giants were able to get a little bit lucky in the 11 inning victory2 over the Diamondbacks and inch their way closer to the top of the standings.
  • The Chicago White Sox continue to roll as A.J. Pierzynski’s 10th inning single3 put the Sox on top of the Tigers 5-4 and gave them their 7th victory in a row.
