Oden Out Again

by bren on November 18th, 2010 | No Comments »

Greg Oden is out again for the season after needing surgery on his left knee. He missed his rookie season after having micro fracture surgery on his right knee. After having surgery on both is knees, hopefully next year he can remain healthy unless of course he grows another knee:

Marlins Rookie Spins A Gem

by bren on July 19th, 2010 | No Comments »

Here’s The Rundown:

  • Florida Marlins got a top notch performance out of their rookie starter, Alex Sanabia. He pitched into the 6th giving up 4 hits while striking out 5 and allowing zero runs. Turns out that was just good enough for his first career victory1.
  • The Mets were able to avoid the sweep2 thanks to a 10th inning double by Ike Davis. K-Rod redeemed himself after blowing his 4th save of the season and locked down the Giants in the 10th for the victory.
  • The Padres’ Chris Denorfia had his first multihomer game3 of his career. He hit 2 solo shots and recorded 4 hits as the Padres swept the Diamondbacks and remained atop the NL West.

When It Rains It Pours

If that statement doesn’t say it all, I don’t know what does. Our #1 pitcher may have a torn ligament, our starting outfielder was diagnosed with lime disease, all the best to him and his health, and our starting catcher now has a bothersome knee. You can’t really catch effectively standing up so we loose his talent behind the dish. We are in trouble anyhow of not making the state tournament and now our players are dropping like flies.

As much as I do want to win, I also want the kids to stay safe when playing the game. If a player is hurt then you can’t do much more than rest him and hope for the best. After all it is just a game but winning is nice also. Nobody wants to go to the ball park knowing their chances of winning have been cut down a bit.

On the flip side, it gives a chance to the other players to step up while those players are out. There may be a player who we overlooked so far and now they get an opportunity to play. I hope that is the case that we have a diamond in the rough and our players step up to the task of filling in for our starters who have come down with injuries and other ailments.

Oh and a reason why Delonte West is one of my least favorite NBA players:
