Nothing Short of Consistent

For the 16th time in 17 season the New York Yankees Baseball team will be headed to the post-season. The Yankees secured the AL East Title with a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays last night in Yankee Stadium. I must say this, the post-season is that much better when the Yankees are involved. Having the possibility of the Yankees and Red Sox playing in the post-season makes things that much more interesting. Without them, I think October loses its luster:

The Sand Man Takes The Record

The New York Yankees relief pitcher Mariano Rivera recorded save number 602 yesterday against the Minnesota Twins. After 17 seasons with the same team and the same pitch, Rivera has reached a milestone that may never be touched. It is fitting though because at his finest he is nearly un-touchable. As a Red Sox fan I have seen him work at his best and also his worst. Without him on the mound the Sox and Yankees series would not be what it is today in this day and age:

Bomb’s Away

Alex Rodriquez opted to have arthroscopic surgery yesterday to repair a slight meniscus tear in his right leg. This could be bad timing for the Yankees who stand 1 game back in the A.L East. The Yankees are glad to see the All-Star break come as they have won 3 out of their last 7 games. Derek Jeter moving into the 3,000 hits club may be the only highlight out of this year for the Bronx Bombers:

All Things Come In Three’s

For the Boston Celtics versus the New York Knicks, it was all about things in 3′s. Ray Allen hit 8 three’s en route to a 32 point performance while playing 37 minutes. Paul Pierce played 33 minutes, made 6 three pointers, grabbed 3 rebounds, stole the ball 3 times, turned the ball over 3 times and scored 38 points. Crazy right! Rajon Rondo had himself a game as well. As he recorded his sixth playoff triple double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and Celtics playoff record of 20 assists. With all those three’s the Celtics took a 3-0 lead over the Knicks after the 113-96 victory:

Savvy Vets

The Boston Celtics went up 2-0 in their series with the New York Knicks after relying on the play of Kevin Garnett down the stretch. Garnett was able to put the Celtics up 1 after hitting a difficult turn around hook. On the defensive end, KG was able to come up with a loose ball and call timeout to ensure the Celtics victory. Delonte West was fouled with .6 seconds on the clock and he nailed him both to secure the 3 point win:
