Braves Honor Maddux

by bren on July 19th, 2009 | No Comments »

In Greg Maddux’s illustrious 23 year career1 he collected some serious hardware. With 4 Cy Young awards, 18 Gold Gloves, only player with 4 consecutive2, and also a World Series Victory in 19953 with the Atlanta Braves. All that hardware did not go unnoticed as the Atlanta Braves retired his number, 31, this past week.

As a sure fire Hall of Famer as well, Maddux was one of a kind. He was as smart of a pitcher as he was talented. He truly defined what it meant to be a “pitcher” and not a “thrower” when on the mound.

All-Star Break In Full Swing

by bren on July 13th, 2009 | No Comments »

We are officially half way through the regular baseball season. It seems only a short time ago we had spring training, bad weather, and a whole year of baseball ahead of us, so much for that. The year has flown by and now it is summer and time for the All-Star break festivities1.

Amongst all those festivities, you have to admit the one you care about the most is the Home Run Derby. Watching these players go out there and slug it out is just awesome to see. I remember waaaay back in the day when Ken Griffey Jr. was in his prime. He could just outslug everyone and it seemed almost unfair. You also knew he was great because he would hit a home run every time in Sega’s World Series Baseball2.

First of all sorry for the delay, as you might have read I was camping this past week. When I asked for the rain to go away and come back another day, it kept choosing the next day to come back again. Be careful what you ask for, right.

Ok well this past week there has been so much activity as well. With some voting becoming official for who will be attending MLB’s All-Star game1, a plethora of moves2 in the NBA, and also Nomar’s return to Boston3 as well.

Baseball’s Union is Fehr-less

Donald Fehr is retiring1 from his job as the Executive Director of Major League Baseballs Player’s Union after 25 years. Some may remember Fehr more for what has come about in the past 10 years with Baseball being scrutinized for the amount of players who have tested positive for steroids.

Donald Fehr should also be remembered for all the good2 he did for baseball as well. For one, he helped the players to get what they felt was due to them in terms of money and labor. It has been quite a 25 years for Fehr and after the past few years, retirement must seem like a great choice.
