- The Nationals Stephen Strasburg finally made his MLB debut and he did not disappoint. He fanned 14 Pirates and held them to 2 runs which was enough for the victory.
- The Boston Red Sox Tim Wakefield passed Roger Clemens2 on the All-Time Innings pitched list with 2,777 after pitching 71/3 innings vs Cleveland.
- The Mets Ike Davis hit a towering blast3 in the 11th to give New York a walk off 2-1 win against San Diego.

- Minnesota Twins were currently on a 9 game skid until Jason Kubel stepped into the box against Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the 8th with the bases loaded. Kubel deposited one into the short porch1 in right putting the Twins ahead for good.
- It took 10 years but the Chicago Cubs finally avoided a sweep2 by the Pirates at home.
- The Marlins completed its first 4 game sweep in 4 years (August 2006 was the last) thanks to a pinch hit 3 run home run3 by Chris Coghlan.
