Mike Flanagan of the Baltimore Orioles organization passed was found outside of his home yesterday in Monkton, MD. Flanagan did pretty much everything you could do in the Baltimore Orioles organization. He pitched for 18 seasons with the O’s, winning a Cy Young in 1979 and a World Series in 1983. After his playing days he was a coach, broadcaster and also spent time in the front office. With that type of dedication to his organization, he will surely be missed:
The Arizona Cardinals locked up their franchise wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald for 8 years. Fitzgerald will receive a cool $120 million with $50 million dollars of the deal being guaranteed. Fitzy has been a top tier receiver for the past 7 seasons racking up more than 1,000 receiving yards in all but 2 seasons. I’d say this is a sure fire win win for both sides:
Jim Thome was locked in against the Detroit Tigers as he went deep twice and reached his 600th career home run. He joined an elite club of 8 players; Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755), Babe Ruth (714), Willie Mays (660), Ken Griffey Jr. (630), Sammy Sosa (609) and Alex Rodriquez (626). I have always loved Thome’s swing and to be in a group like this you know he has done something in his career:
For 25 year old Keegan Bradley won his first major championship on his first try yesterday. Sitting 5 shots back with 3 holes to play you would have never thought it could have been done but that’s why they play the game. Jason Dufner, leader at 15, fell apart on his final holes and opened the window for the New England native. Dufner bogeyed 15,16 and 17 to fall into a tie with Bradley. Taking the two players into a 3 hole playoff for the Wanamaker Trophy:
