Alex Rodriquez opted to have arthroscopic surgery yesterday to repair a slight meniscus tear in his right leg. This could be bad timing for the Yankees who stand 1 game back in the A.L East. The Yankees are glad to see the All-Star break come as they have won 3 out of their last 7 games. The South Carolina Gamecocks not only won their second championship last night but they did it with style. Winning 16 times in the NCAA tournament and also generating the longest win streak with 11 in a row during the College World Series:
The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Florida Gators 2-1 last night in the first game of the College World Series. The Gamecocks were able to stick to their formula that made them defending champions, play great defense and apply pressure on offense. South Carolina was able to do this in the 13th inning and the Gators folded. Florida made 2 throwing errors when Christian Walker stole second. First, the catcher threw the ball into right-center allowing Walker to advance to third. Next, Florida’s right fielder Bryson Smith’s throw got away from the 3rd baseman Dent. That allowed Walker to stroll on home with the go ahead run and 1-0 series lead:
Roy Halladay pitched his 5th complete game this season as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Oakland Athletics 3-1. Halladay gave up 8 hits and allowed just the 1 run in his complete game performance. Jimmy Rollins supplied most of the run support as he went 4-4 scoring 2 out of the 3 runs.
