This weekend my team played against a team that was not in our league. Great, I was thinking of having many of the players who sit the bench get out there and show us what they have. As an assistant coach I can only come up with these ideas as suggestions and “talk the coach” into seeing them through. The head coach was really more interested in winning, so we could get back to .500 baseball. That is all well and good but I would have rather seen what the other kids could do for us down the road.
My logic was also to save our best pitcher for the upcoming week. We are facing the No.1 team in “our league” and have another league game on Wednesday. Having our No.1 pitcher go against the No.1 team in our league was something I thought would be in our best interest, hence my title. Since we got the victory with our No.1 pitcher going all 7 innings, now we may have a predicament. Yes it may rain and we may get lucky but our No.2 is still solid but he is our No.2 go to guy. In overall scheme of things it can change the outcome of our league play going forward. So I ask you how important is a win that gets you back to .500 when you risk your best pitcher not throwing against the best team?
Keep up the good work, I like your writing.
