This weekend my team played against a team that was not in our league. Great, I was thinking of having many of the players who sit the bench get out there and show us what they have. As an assistant coach I can only come up with these ideas as suggestions and “talk the coach” into seeing them through. The head coach was really more interested in winning, so we could get back to .500 baseball. That is all well and good but I would have rather seen what the other kids could do for us down the road.
So the title may seem like I am missing something but really its ok. What I mean is the Boston Marathon will be run tomorrow morning and the weather has no say in the matter. This topic comes up after seeing the volcanic eruption in Iceland:
The reason I bring this up is because of the some hundreds of runners that have been effected by mother nature’s disruption of the flight patterns. If you have not heard, ash is not a good thing for a planes engine. It causes the engine to stop because the ash gets into the wiring once it is liquified and ends up shutting down the engine.
The people who are not able to travel don’t care so much about missing the marathon date its all the hard work that has gone into running that one day. You can not get up and run a marathon folks, you have to train your body to sustain the different types of weather plus withstand the distance you have to run in order to finish. I know from personal experience, it is such a drain to know that you have trained for so long and will not be able to run in a race. A lot of work is put into getting yourself in shape for this event and then its over before you know it. It is like anything you might do for an extended period of time. You put your blood, sweat and tears into it only to see the bottom drop out of it.
I hope most of the runners can make it overseas but it is unfortunate to hear that so many runners will not be able to make the trip for the Boston Marathon due to circumstances out of their control. It simply was not meant to be, what else can you say. These things don’t just happen for nothing, they happen for a reason.
It seemed as though tension was high for everyone at some point during the day today:
I think the main reason is that it is Opening Day for Baseball, I mean that makes sense in my book. You just want to hang out and watch the game after having a family feast. Let’s face it, sometimes family can get on ya nerves after a while but I think that is the definition of family. Drive each other crazy, have a little dinner, then relax together and watch some Baseball. On such a gorgeous day as today, it only seems right that Baseball should be played. So everyone turn it down a few notches and rest up as you watch grown men play a Children’s game.
Ok so this year I decided not to go with as many upsets as I usually do when I fill out my bracket. Granted, I did have my fair share but who could have seen the amount of upsets happening this year before the tournament started? I am no savant when it comes to bracket-ology but this year has been amazing.
I think had I gone the upset rout, I probably would have been upset that I did. I usually do a little to many and then end up going with the higher seeds anyhow. The probability of a lower seed winning is usually pretty slim, so picking them often times does not make all that much sense.
I digress though, you can’t ask for a more entertaining tournament than we have seen in the past years. Get comfy in that lounge chair and enjoy the rest of the tournament because it is sure to be a doosy. Yes a doosy.
