One Sport May Leave You Short

I was on my way to writing this terrific piece on how I recently found Alf on TV again. As ecxited as I was I stumbled upon a much better subject.  Browsing some sporting channels I came across something Tony Romo said after his Friday Round of Golf at the 20th annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe to the Associated Press.

As reported by the Associated Press, Tony said;

“People sometimes today are predominantly putting their kids into one sport. Age 10, they’re going to do one thing the rest of their life. I have a hard time with that because, shoot, I was like a basketball player as a kid. I would have just concentrated on one sport, soccer or something. I never would have been able to do what I’m lucky enough to do — play football.”1

In my amateur opinion, I totally agree with everything Tony Romo said. I think that when you play more than one sport, you develop different talents for each sport. Since most sports have the same basic concept, players each helping each other score a basket, goal, touchdown, record an out, etc. The new talents may overlap into each sport the child does participate in. Each sport does have its own special niche, but when you are exposed to different situations that make you adjust quickly, your reactions become more refined. Thus you may have a better ability to blend into a team atmosphere, think quicker on your feet, and also learn how to adjust to various situations. As Tony Romo also touched upon, the more pressure situations you are put into the easier it becomes to calm yourself down and focus.

“Anytime you’re in a pressure situation or something happens where you have to rely on your mental strength or discipline or all of a sudden you get nervous, blood starts racing, heart starts going, the more you’re in those situations the better off you’re going to be.”2

It is an interesting topic and if you asked 50 people, you will probably get 50 different responses to this subject.

All-Star Break In Full Swing

We are officially half way through the regular baseball season. It seems only a short time ago we had spring training, bad weather, and a whole year of baseball ahead of us, so much for that. The year has flown by and now it is summer and time for the All-Star break festivities1.

Amongst all those festivities, you have to admit the one you care about the most is the Home Run Derby. Watching these players go out there and slug it out is just awesome to see. I remember waaaay back in the day when Ken Griffey Jr. was in his prime. He could just outslug everyone and it seemed almost unfair. You also knew he was great because he would hit a home run every time in Sega’s World Series Baseball2.

Wakefield Is An All-Star

First of all sorry for the delay, as you might have read I was camping this past week. When I asked for the rain to go away and come back another day, it kept choosing the next day to come back again. Be careful what you ask for, right.

Ok well this past week there has been so much activity as well. With some voting becoming official for who will be attending MLB’s All-Star game1, a plethora of moves2 in the NBA, and also Nomar’s return to Boston3 as well.

Shell Shocked

I am so sorry about this folks but I am still so stoked about what I stumbled upon in K-Mart, yeah I stumbled upon a K-Mart as well. The only reason I was even in K-Mart was to find a certain camping accessory for my upcoming trip to Vermont. I will be camping for a week in the Sunray Peace Village in Lincoln. I am basically going to hippie camp, I will have to expand on this another time.

Anywho, as I am walking through the store I took a side route into the toy section, why not. I like to look at packaging ideas and what not. Low and behold there they were, just hanging on the shelf. The Original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The reason I am so excited is because when I was younger my “collection,” sprayed out onto Rt. 18 in Abington on our way to a family vacation. Talk about being devastated.  All is good now because I managed to pick up these action figures. Whatever floats your boat I always say. I am such a little kid and these toys just bring me back to the good old days. I am currently gearing up for my trip and will be back on July 7, Cowabunga Doods!!

Monsterous Weekend

Make no doubt about it, this weekend was one of the best I have had in a long time. Of Course any time my father tells us to block off a date for a certain festivity, we know we are in for something awesome.

Starting off the weekend the family got to take a trip to Fenway Park to see the Red Sox take on the Atlanta Braves. With some maneuvering of back roadsYouTube Preview Imagewe would make it in on time to behold invaluable pieces of Red Sox Nation, Two World Series Trophies. A spectacle unto themselves, I teared up looking at them basking in sun.  dscn0353

As if that was not enough, the group we were in took a stroll over to the Monster Seats in left field. These seats are just absolutely incredible, you might feel far away but you see everything that is going on. It felt as though we were right in the middle of the action in center field.dscn03591

It can’t get much better than that can it, well if you like buffet’s then yes.  If you do not like them then no, it did not get any better. Any ballpark food you would like would be yours to enjoy during the game.dscn03601

Naturally I pointed to everything on the menu and said “keep ‘em coming” haha. It certainly a fitting way to spend the first night of my monstrous weekend.
