Real Salt Lake Defeated Columbus Crew and advance to the second round1:
I feel as though sporting events are places where energy emitted has the ability to effect an outcome of a game. You hear players talk about feeling the energy of the crowd or stadium. Some have said that it actually makes them play better and harder. It is also a big reason why playing in front of your home crowd is referred to as “home field advantage.”
What interests me is the energy in a stadium and how it varies from seating level to seating level. The balcony is usually made up of younger fans, since the seats are less expensive and more affordable. From my own personal experience, the energy level in the balcony level is generally that of very excited and great intensity. Each fan hanging on every play and quick to respond to a play they disprove of.
In the lower sections, loge to floor seats, the crowd is made up of more parents and is more of an upper class fan base. These fans are in a much more relaxed attitude than the bleachers. If a player misses a shot, the reaction is not as intense and can often times go unnoticed.
It is interesting to see that as the game becomes more intense, the bleachers lead the arena in cheering. The energy from the bleachers seems to flow down to the floor effecting all the fans along the way. Resulting in a positive/negative universal arena response. So even as the levels split the fans due to economic circumstances, the energy moving within the arena can unite everyone in an instant.
All I have to say is “WOW”. He’s had one outstanding career to accomplish even one of these feats1. I thought it was unusual to have something this great get sort of swept under the rug. The NFL has new gossip to cover every week so I can understand. I think some more recognition about this feat would not hurt at all. Thought I would bring it back this week just to keep it fresh in people minds that he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the game today.
I was browsing around on You Tube, as I do many days, and stumbled upon this news story of a Basketball Player at Manhattan College receiving a scholarship to play. I know your saying so what, that happens all the time. It sure does but just not for players who have one hand. Check it out1:
He makes me think about the time when Jason McElwain suited up for his final game of High School. If you forget the story then here it is again, this never gets old, ever2.
Why does this Manhattan player bring my mind to this particular high school player? It reminded me of special moments sports have given us over the years.
From a youngster who is blind playing football3:
To a high school football player who was born without legs4:
These young adults and kids have brought to light one common theme. You can do whatever your heart desires, so long as you put your mind to it. I know it has been said time and time again but that is because it is true. It is very cool to see such great attitudes and different perspectives on life. Positive thinking begets positive results.
As I ventured out last night, to Dillons Bar in Boston. Me and my friends were just hanging out and watching the Yankee vs Angles Game 2. While we were watching my friend asked ” Do you find your interest in baseball increasing/decreasing?”
I had to answer to the fact that my interest has decreased in the recent years. It is one of those things that ends up falling to the wayside sometimes. Due to the amount of games, length of the game, and pace it can be easy to see how this can be true for many other adults. You go to work then some exercise, do errands, just end up doing other things than paying attention to a local baseball team.
