Closed Open’s Last Hurrah

For 25 years the Closed Open has been fund raising money for the Jimmy Fund cancer research. My Uncles and Father have been donating to a cause that has effected them personally on many levels. The Thomas family was dealt a tough blow in 1982 as a member of their family was diagnosed and eventually passed away from cancer. Cancer also affected another member of the family but he was very fortunate to survive. After a quarter of a century they turned in quite a spectacular ending to the event that has touched many lives.

It is not an easy task to be dedicated to an event such as this for so long. There is a lot of behind the scenes work of making sure volunteers can help, generating sponsors for the holes and also recruiting new/veteran players each year. It has been nice to participate and see how they have been able to organize such a successful event each and every year. Growing up it was like the event would never end. They might have gone on for another 25 years but there does come a time when all things must come to an end. I am just glad I was able to contribute to helping develop a cure for this ever evolving disease.
